Reece and I sold our house in 2020, bought a block of land in the country and moved into a rental while we built our house until 2023. I totally lost myself during this time as it felt like life was on pause and we were stuck in limbo. Our rental never felt like home (despite how grateful we were to have it) which is a big deal for a homebody like me, I stopped exercising which impacted my body image, Mia was super unsettled and anxious for a while which began to feel suffocating, then Reece’s health took a turn in 2023. He’s always had a chronic liver disease but it’s never really caused him any issues until that point. I rememeber one afternoon while he was having a scan that detects cancers I left the hospital to get some air. I held back tears as I walked out, then put my sunglasses on and cried behind them. I got inside my car and hyperventilated crying, convinced that he had a rare, extremely aggressive and deadly cancer caused by one of the biologic drugs he was on for his other autoimmune disease. A year and a half, 2 bouts of sepsis and multiple hospital stays later and he needs a liver transplant and potentially another major surgery for his other disease. The call saying they’ve found an organ donor could come at any moment, which is super nerve-wracking but also a chance at a new life which is so precious. While all of this was happening we were moving out of our rental into our beautiful new home, which actually felt foreign and eerie to me because we didn’t get a chance to settle in before he got sick. I was also meant to launch my brand Loungeface’s new brow collection which I had worked really hard on, but basically ended up just posting saying “it’s live!” because I had no energy left. BUT! We eventually settled into our new home, made new little routines, soaked up every moment together, went on our little beachside walks with Mia (who loved the house and settled in quickly). I started working out again which had a huge impact on my mental health and body image. Just recently I’ve stopped fake tanning and have learnt to appreciate my fair skin for the first time in my life. I also got diagnosed with inattentive ADHD and have been taking medication which has been transformative. Reece is off work due to having a PIIC line in so he’s been helping me with the business side of Loungeface which has been so amazing. So, all in all, we’ve had some of the lowest lows these past few years, but what goes up must come down and vice versa. It all started with your comments and messages. Many of you noticed patterns in my behaviour that I couldn’t see myself. What began as the occasional ‘Have you considered ADHD?’ message turned into a life-changing journey of self-discovery for me.
