This is my mom. She is my brother’s carer before any of us. She knows him better than me or anyone else. She’s spent 32 years finding solutions to improve his health and his quality of life, and let’s just say, he’s pretty healthy. When doctors told her that he would never be able to eat orally, she proved them wrong. When aids at his program told us he needed a g-tube to make feeding easier, we pulled him out and switched to home-based program. The attention, the diets, the lifting and the love never feels like work for mom. Not every mom gets the opportunity to, is able to, or wants to give their entire life to their kid, and though each family has their own circumstances, I am so happy God chose a woman like mine to be my brother’s mother. Happy Women’s Day to you, maa 💚
When most people think of Medicaid, they think of insurance provide to low-income families and seniors… often what’s forgotten is full-coverage for those with disabilities. Medicaid is the PRIMARY payer for long-term service and support for individuals with disabilities. Cuts will impact therapy services, community-hab services, residential services, prices in medications and doctor’s visits, medical equipment and so much more that will directly impact the quality of life of the disabled, along with their families - who will most likely need to quit their jobs, and become unpaid, full-time caretakers for their children. Please contact your local and national officials, sign up for their newsletters and stay in the loop. Please protect Medicaid. *Equipment and supplies are provided based on the patient’s diagnoses and based on the funding received by the state. NYS is one of the top providers. We are lucky to be able to receive mostly what we need, but not everyone in our country can. #protectmedicaid #medicaidcuts #disabilityawareness #cerebralpalsy
