My Lilo and I went to see the new live action movie and while it was amazing to see a new version of a film that has brought these sisters so much comfort - meaningful conversations also were had. It opened a door to help my sister grow as a young woman who now understands better her own privilege, the significance of Hawaiian culture, why the plot change was harmful to Hawaiian woman and girls and the role our people played in minimizing Hawaiian people. She knows now that she can still love the movie while holding respect and a better understanding for Native Hawaiians ♥️ and let me be proof if you ever need it - you CAN stay with your Lilo.
