There are rules around food in France. And honestly? I love it. Food is an art form here. It’s to be savored and appreciated- and rightly so! I do think it’s interesting about snacking. There is so much INCREDIBLY good food and it’s often very rich and indulgent but they don’t over eat. They SLOW DOWN. There might be extra friends on the produce but at least we know it’s fresh! And honestly bread here is RIDICULOUS. I had no idea how good the bread was here. I feel like Germany and France are well known for their bread but the homemade bread here is divine! Also lol at the cds and dvds. I’ve been surprised by prices in grocery stores, especially produce, - not as cheap as I would think! Culture shock is REAL! From stores closing on Sundays to 2-hour lunch breaks, France has been a wild adjustment. The pharmacy that ONLY sells medicine? I say that this is the first time but technically we have been here before! We took a river cruise and visited six en Provence back in 2018 and fell in love! Why Provence? ⬇️ or more specifically, why Aix-en-Provence. Our criteria for a place to live is this, and it applies to my favorite places we’ve lived: Heidelberg, Germany, Oxford, England, and Aix-en-Provence 🏰European pretty: what I mean by this is old and historic looking. Not a lot of modern buildings. 🎓 University city: which means there’s always something going on and usually options for great places to live. 📍Easy to travel in and out. As in airports nearby. 🌳 not too big: since we bring our dogs a really big city just doesn’t vibe for us to spend a ton of time. Small-mid size European cities still have all the conveniences! 🚋Convenience—markets, cafes, easy transportation 😊we look at how cities are ranked for happiness. ⚡️A little magic (you know it when you feel it, or in our case, see it online- we had never been to Heidelberg (or Germany for that matter) before we moved there! Overall though, we knew Aix-en-Provence was our kind of place the moment we went in 2019 and coming back, we know it’s right now! #provence #aixenprovence #expat #france #americaninfrance
